For this project, we were assigned to create a promotional booklet based on a real event happening in Toronto in which we had to draw inspiration from project 1, which it was an experimental quote poster from Frida Kahlo (scroll down to see the full poster). In result, these experiments helped me with deciding which message i’m trying to send with the booklet. I used specific colors that were used in Frida Kahlo’s poster, such as pink, purple, gold and blue. I also used different weight of ‘‘Open Sans’’ typeface because it was clean, modern and readable such as the the font of the quote. By centering the main information of the program, it allows the viewer eye to go on the time that is convenient for them first, then the title of the program and lastly the extra information about the event. I also designed the translated title/information to be under the English because it’s intended for them not to work too hard, unlike the upside down sketch that I was experimenting on (page 6). I was also inspired by the event theme itself, which is, cinema and youth, which is represented through the small designs (paper airplanes, popcorn, drinks, etc.) that were used throughout the booklet. Although I am bilingual, making a bilingual booklet was a challenge for me because I had to consider how a non-bilingual person reads or looks at a booklet. I feel as though, the final result was effective and friendly for bilingual AND non-bilingual.
